Seed Library

Are you passionate about gardening, sustainability, and community involvement? Look no further! The Butte Public Library is thrilled to invite you to participate in our exciting Community Garden and Seed Library programs.

Seed Library:

Location: 2nd floor, across from the Reference Desk.
How it Works: Simply fill out an application (available at the Reference Desk) and start "checking out" seeds in the spring. No library card required!
Seed Return: If your seeds produce, save and dry them, then return them to the library in the fall. This helps us maintain an organic, Butte microclimate-adjusted seed source.
Seed Packet Limit: This year, we're waving the previous limit of 10 packets per person, so feel free to check out as many as you want!

Community Garden:

Location: Managed by the Reference team.
Plot Rental: Rent a plot for $30 per season (May-October). Sign a contract and pay your fee at the library.
Responsibilities: Planting, watering, weeding, and harvesting of your plot.
Accessibility: Only renters can harvest from their plots; it's not open to the public.
Expansion: We're expanding the garden to the empty lot next door, adding a pollinator garden, fruiting trees and bushes, an education center, and cold frames.
Plot Allocation: Returning gardeners get priority, but we also have a waitlist. Leave your name, email, and number with the Reference Desk to join the waitlist.
