Men in the Mines: an exhibit of historic photos curated by Kim Murphy Kohn, World Museum of Mining
Kim Murphy Kohn, Assistant Director of the World Museum of Mining, will share a presentation of historic photographs entitled “Men in the Mines: Mine Crews in Butte, Montana, 1882-1960.” Much of mining history focuses on the companies, the amount of ore mined, and how much it was worth. This talk is based on the Mining Museum's online exhibit of photographs that focuses on the crews of men who worked underground. Pulling from the Montana State Mine Inspector’s Reports, historic newspapers, and public records, Kohn will share the stories of the hard-rock miners and craftsmen who worked above and below ground in Butte, Montana. The talk will be held in the Big Butte Room on the 3rd floor of the Butte Public Library at noon January 3. You can participate in discussions in person or remotely by zoom.
